After only a few hours as owner of the social networking site, Musk has already earned himself a place in the European Union.

Musk means "freed" and "bird" in the same way.

The European Commission's internet market commissioner, who is fairly obsessive online himself, quickly replied to Musk, offering a passive- aggressive emoji wave greeting.

The Digital Services Act, also known as DSA, is a reference to the new rules that aim to drive accountability on internet businesses by laying out governance expectations for how they handle societal risks.

Musk is being warned that his platform must abide by European rules.

The EU commissioner brought a receipt for his trip to see Musk when he was in charge of Europe's approach to digitalregulation.

Now, Breton wrote, "That's what he said."

Elon Musk gives Europe’s speech platform rules the thumbs up

European regulators are concerned that Musk's ownership of the modest-sized speech platform will lead to a new era of toxicity for global discourse if he tosses out the company.

This isn't a fear of academics. The former head of legal policy, trust and safety, as well as the former head of the legal policy, trust and safety, have already been fired by Musk.

As it could signal the start of an intentional ripping out of internal checks and balances and a dismantling of the painstakingly constructed approach to trust and safety, it is concerning.

The risk is that it will be set back at nazi.

The shitposting billionaire that is now in charge of the platform made a joke about firing 75% of the staff and then claimed to have rowed back on that particular plan. It's the worst boss I've ever had. It's just kidding.

It is anyone's guess what Musk will do now that he has a steering wheel. Mass firings would be an indirect way to dismantle vital content checks and balances by starving the community minded function of the necessary resources to keep the most toxic speech in check.

Elon Musk is the equivalent of a politician promising to cut taxes, increase military/social spending, and eliminate the national debt.

All of these ideas sound excellent to the aam admi, but are collectively impossible. You hence have no idea what he will do now in-office.

It is like everything that Musk does.

He gave the EU's rules an apparent thumbs up and claimed he would respect all legal requirements, even if he didn't know what he was agreeing with.

It is an extremely complicated claim as it suggests that his freeing of the bird could also require him to region-lock the bird in soundproof cages.

Musk's freedom to do what he likes is already relative and will only shrink from here on in as hard realities.

When the regulation starts applying from next year, the Commission may have concerns about Musk breaching the DSA on his social media accounts. An EU source is of the opinion that Musk's wings are as good as they were before.

The time of big online platforms acting like they are too big to care is coming to an end. The source told us that the DSA set clear obligations for platforms.

Europe is open, but on certain conditions. Anyone who wants to benefit from the European market will have to comply with our rules.

The Commission will be able to impose sanctions of up to 6 percent of global turnover or a ban on operating in the EU single market in case of repeated serious breeches.
