The physical buttons on the phone may not be necessary anymore.

The analyst says that the next iteration of Apple's phone will have solid state buttons instead of physical ones.

The power button on the right side and the volume buttons on the left side will become solid-state buttons only on the two highest-end models.

Even though "solid-state" might sound arcane, most iPhone and Mac users are already familiar with the design, and newer MacBooks have a trackpad that doubles as a big solid-state button.

There aren't any moving parts in these buttons. The magic of Apple's Taptic Engine makes them feel like pressable buttons. The new iPhones will get two more Taptic Engines, one on the left and the other on the right, according to the author. As you tap on the display, the taptic engine gives feedback.

There is no word on what the new buttons will look like.

Apple's design and solid-state buttons will be adopted by high-end Android smartphones, according to a report by Taiwan's top analyst.

The switch to USB-C and the new buttons are two of the major updates for the phone. Apple's senior vice president of worldwide marketing, Greg Joswiak, recently confirmed that the company will switch to USB-C on the iPhone in the future, but he wouldn't say when.

The Pro models will get a new chip, an improved camera, and up to 8 gigabytes of memory, according to other rumors. Take any rumors and reports with a grain of salt because the iPhone 15 Pro won't be out for another 10 months.
