The CEO and CFO have left the company's headquarters in San Francisco for the last time because of Musk's order. Sources told The New York Times that Musk has also fired the head of legal and policy and the general council.

The wealthiest person in the world had previously stated he planned on reducing the company's workforce by up to 75 percent. Up to 5000 employees could be let go.

There were doubts as to whether Musk would follow through with his proposed cuts and a few high-powered CEOs is a far cry from thousands of workers. If Musk is just starting, it wouldn't be a surprise.

According to its sources, Musk has asked the engineers from the two companies to meet. They were shown the company's code by the former.
