The earnings results for the fourth quarter show that Apple saw a decline in iPad sales.

iPad supplies were constrained for most of the year. The iPad Air was refreshed in March but did not have a new design.

Due to the timing of the launch of the iPad Pro and iPad, the sales of those devices will be counted in the first quarter of fiscal 2023. There have been supply issues with the iPad which may have impacted sales.

Revenue for the quarter was $7.17 billion, down from $8.25 billion in the year-ago quarter. The year over year comparison is difficult as Apple introduced new products.

Mac sales were up even though iPad sales fell. In June, Apple refreshed the MacBook Air and 13-inch MacBook Pro models, but we are still waiting for other models like the Mac mini and the 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro.

Interest in the M1 Pro, M1 Max, M1 Ultra, and M2 chips has resulted in steady sales despite supply constraints with Macs. Mac revenue was up by 2.5 billion dollars in the fourth quarter. Macs earned a total of $40.1 billion, up $5 billion from the $35 billion that Macs earned in the previous fiscal year. Half of Mac buyers were new to the product line in the last quarter of the year.

Mac revenue will decline substantially in the holiday quarter on a year over year basis due to the Mac launches that came last year according to Apple CFO Luca Maestri.
