Buffalo Police Commissioner Joseph Gramaglia said in a media briefing on Monday that the incident is connected to the Kia challenge.
A search on TikTok shows that the Kia Challenge appears to have reached a peak in popularity on the app in July and August of this year. There are videos on TikTok explaining that the challenge has been about the cars.
Gizmodo asked for comment on the challenge, but the company did not reply immediately.
