The New York Giants traded Kadarius Toney to the Kansas City Chiefs for a third- and sixth-round pick, according to a source.
The new regime led by head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen didn't seem to be a good one. The other teams were under the impression that Toney could be had for the right price this year.
It was for the best of the team. I wish Kadarius good luck.
Neither the Giants nor the Chiefs have announced the trade.
The Giants drafted Toney in the first round of the 2021.
The Giants have been without Toney for five games. He told reporters last week that his return has been delayed because he tried to come back too quickly from his injury.
During training camp, Toney injured his rightham. In the second week of the season, he injured that same leg. He injured his left leg during a practice.
The bye this week will give Toney more time to recover.
Toney has two catches. He missed 12 of a possible 24 career games due to a variety of injuries and a bout with Covid-19. In the 12 games he has played, he has 41 catches.
After the trade of Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins, a new wide receiver room was created in Kansas City. Smith-Schuster and Valdes-Scantling are both in the top three in receiving yards for the Chiefs, behind Kelce.
For the rest of the season, the Chiefs appear to have their top three players. Smith-Schuster and Valdes-Scantling both went over 100 yards in the victory.
There is work to be done at the position for the longer term. Smith-Schuster and Hardman are both on one-year contracts.
The acquisition of Toney is the latest in a series by the Chiefs. In the past few years, the Chiefs have brought in other high-round draft picks at minimal cost, including Reggie Ragland, offensive lineman, and defensive back.
