George Paton, the general manager of the Broncos, said he wants wins and to see more offense, but he also supports Nathaniel Hackett and Russell Wilson.
Paton said that they were not in the mode of getting rid of their really good players.
The Broncos arrived in London with the lowest scoring offense in the league and a four game losing streak. Wilson and the offense have failed to live up to expectations in the first seven games of the season, making them a target for criticism.
In six of their games, the Broncos have scored 16 or less points. The defense has allowed eight touchdown.
Paton said he supports Nathaniel completely. He has been a head coach for seven games. He has faced a lot of scrutiny. We have had four prime-time games so he's had to learn.
The team has been kept together by him. We've kept our building together. I think he's done a good job.
He knew that there would be growing pains with all of the new things on the offense.
Paton knew it was not going to be well-oiled. I didn't think it would take that long. There is a lot that needs to be worked on. There's no excuse. We need to improve. The offense is not good enough to win a game. The defense has held us together, but the offense needs to play better.
Paton stood by the decision to sign Wilson. If Wilson plays it all the way out, he'll stay with the team through the season's end.
Paton said that it was their job to get the best out of Russ and the rest of the offense. We'll get there. Russ has had flashes. The arm strength, the accuracy, the mobility, we all need to play better on offense.
Wilson, who missed Sunday's game against the New York Jets with a hamstring injury, has completed 58.6% of his passes this season and has five touchdown passes. He has two starts and one game with two touchdown passes.
Paton said he was not worried. We're in it for a long time with Russ. I think Russ is a good person. We need to improve on offense. We don't have an identity. We don't have an identity and I think that will come with time.
Several players have had interest from other teams leading up to the trade deadline, including Bradley Chubb, Jerry Jeudy, and Albert Okwoegbunam.
Chubb, who is having the best season of his career in the final year of his contract, could draw interest from teams looking for an impact pass-rusher.
Paton said that they like Bradley a lot. One of our core players is Bradley. What is best for the team is what we are going to do.
