I am one of a number of hockey watchers who claim to have an agenda against the Yotes. It is hypocritical to talk so much about the place teams have for fans in their lives and the public trust that they really are and then turn around and call for them to be moved out of Arizona at the very least. Fans of the Coyotes are owed the same patience and understanding.
It becomes clear that it isn't our fault that Gary Bettman's insistence on installing whatever fuckwit he hits with a thrown brick hasn't lived up to his dedication.
This is only a temporary set-up for visiting teams, but it is important to consider the whole context. The temporary solution the Coyotes came up with was to play in a warehouse that was supposed to be a college arena because they were kicked out of the arena because they were such bad tenants.
In a second, we will get to the second part. The temporary solution for the homeless Yotes isn't ready yet because the away team facilities aren't ready They should not be playing a home game. It isn't fair to the Jets, Rangers, Panthers, and Stars, who will all have to use this tank for a real NHL game. The Islanders were forced to go on the road for over a month last season because the arena they were going to was not ready in time.
The worst part of this is that this isn't a waiting period while a true arena is built. This isn't the exile of the BlueJays to Buffalo. The football team is not playing in a stadium. There isn't a certain stadium solution for the coyotes. The Tempe council has agreed to work with them to get to an agreement to build an arena there, but they haven't come close to clearing every hurdle yet. Maybe it won't happen at all. There isn't a lot of certainty about this. TheCoyotes could be a university tenant with no purpose other than Bettman not wanting to admit a defeat.
There are arenas in Kansas City, Quebec City, or Houston. Wouldn't that be a better solution if theCoyotes were able to build an arena in Tempe? Can you tell me if any of those places could take the Coyotes full time? There would be appropriate facilities. How many teams are given the chance to build two arenas where one has failed and the other is not likely to succeed? The Coyotes were kicked out of the city because they were so bad. We don't know if it's going to be the same in Tempe.
Four games is all it is. It is already a joke of a solution. The other leagues would accept this.
The NHL will probably get the players on the four teams that have to play this game. They will say it's just part of the grind, it's one game, they're hockey players, the regular season throws up a lot of challenges, etc.
If the team sells every ticket this year, they will average 5,000 fans per game. In their last season in the Dirty South, the Thrashers averaged 13K.
A joke is what it is. For a long time. The bar continues to sink.
