Pakistan's World Cup hopes were damaged by a one-run loss to Zimbabwe in Perth.

Pakistan was able to finish on 129-8 because of an inspired performance from the Zimbabweans.

Masood looked to be steering Pakistan out of trouble before he was stumped off thespinner.

Zimbabwe had never won outside the first round of a men's World Cup.

Zimbabwe captain Craig Ervine said it was special because of the work they did to get into the Super 12s.

"We didn't want our tournament to end there, we wanted to play some really good cricket against some top teams and we did that very well today."

Needing three to win from the final ball, Shaheen Afridi was run out trying to score a second run, which would have secured a tie.

Pakistan are winless after two games, with their first game against India ending in a tense loss.

Zimbabwe is in third place in Group Two behind India and South Africa.

Zimbabwe struggled against Pakistan's fiery bowling, with Sean Williams' 31 the only individual score of more than 20.

Leg-spinner Shadab Khan took three and Mohammad Wasim had four.

A partnership of 52 between Masood and Shadab helped rebuild the chase after Pakistan lost Babar and Mohammad.

The momentum shifted back to Zimbabwe when the two fell in the same ball.

The equation was back in Pakistan's favor before a six and a four from Mohammad Nawaz swung the equation back in their favor.

Brad Evans ended Pakistan's hopes when he caught Nawaz from the last ball.

Pakistan are still in the tournament, but need other results to go their way.

Pakistan batter Masood spoke to the radio. We can achieve a target of 130.

We had the game in our hands, only being two down in the 13th over and the run-rate went below seven, but we just had to finish the game off.

When push came to shove, we let it slip.

History for Zimbabwe, disappointment for Pakistan

Pakistan came into the World Cup with a fearsome fast bowling line-up and one of the best opening partnerships of all time in Babar and Rizwan.

Their hopes of making it to the group stages are hanging by a thread.

Pakistan were favorites before the game started and even more so when they restricted Zimbabwe to 130.

Shaheen was not at his best with the new ball, but Haris Rauf and Wasim gave absolutely nothing away, and the former was particularly economical, giving just 12 runs from his four overs.

It's easy to say that they are the best bowling attack in the tournament.

Zimbabwe would not back down.

Pakistan relied heavily on their openers and they only made 18 runs between them.

Zimbabwe capitalized on the uncertain start as they stuttered to 28-2 after the six over powerplay.

It was a relentless all-round performance by the player of the match, Raza, who continued his fine tournament, taking his tally to eight pins.

Zimbabwe's lack of tournament experience made it even more impressive that they held their nerve until the end.

The players danced, sang and took pictures with their fans at the end of the game, showing how much it meant to them.

The player of the match said he was inspired by a message from Ricky Ponting before the match.

I think my thoughts are dry because of all my emotions. I am very proud of this group of boys. I don't think there are any words that I can say about the way the seamers started and the way we backed it up in the field.
