The plastic waste doesn't break down very often. Trillions of tiny bits are scattered across the world after it splits into tinier and tinier pieces. In the air we breathe, in the water we drink, and in the deepest parts of the ocean, there are tiny particles of plastic. Microplastics are found in our bloodstream and in our gut. We are still trying to figure out how to solve the problem that we have only recently understood.
Matt Simon, WIRED climate writer and author of the new book A Poison Like No Other, joins us to discuss what we can do about microplastics.
