Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot proposes city ordinance giving herself a raise

The office of the mayor in Chicago would be given an annual inflation raise capped at 5% under a proposal by the city's mayor.

As of May 22, 2023, Lightfoot's annual salary will be $216,210, an increase of 22%. The mayor could opt out of a raise if the proposal is approved.

Lightfoot has faced a lot of criticism for her handling of violent crime in her city, which has increased 37% compared to the previous year.

The number of motor vehicle thefts is up by a third compared to the previous year.
