Before buying a ticket, airlines make sure you know about opportunities to purchase extra legroom seats and first class seats. They want to get you to buy something. Even though they are being dragged along by the airlines to generate ancillary revenue, online travel agencies do not serve the interests of consumers.

New rules have been proposed by the Department of transportation. The passenger and itinerary-specific fees will be displayed by airlines and travel agencies. The fees will have to be readable by agencies. The rule needs to be improved before any final rule is adopted.

The idea that airlines sell seats with more space on domestic flights is fanciful. It's much more common to have three inches. Few marginalized Americans fly frequently in the airline industry. It doesn't make sense to suggest that they are harmed more by buying up to extra legroom seats.
