Competitive gaming may be added to the X Games roster in the future. Steven Flisler, who was formerly the vice president of original content and the executive producer of twitch Rivals, will be the new CEO of MSP Sports Capital.
The company is excited to integrate competitive gaming into the X Games brand, Flisler said in a statement.
We can't wait to interact with 'chat' on both platforms.
The company said it wants to increase appeal to a digitally native audience seeking expanded access to athletes and community-driven content.
I'm excited to see what the future holds for the X Games. Since I haven't had cable for years, I've mostly forgotten that the event has even been happening. It should be put on both channels to solve that.
Tony Hawk, who has been the unofficial face of X Games since it began, is also joining the X Games as a brand steward. At the X Games, Hawk has won a number of medals. Since this is my only chance to talk about his skateboarding abilities, I recommend you watch the Tony Hawk documentary if you haven't already.
We want to build an epic storyline around the competition and then produce the right type of content for the right platform. The action will not change, but the vibe and interactivity will be different.
The X Games, which was founded in 1995, has a multi-year agreement with the cable network to remain its linear broadcast partner.
The event typically has athletes competing in skiing, snowboarding, Moto X, BMX freestyle, and skateboarding, but the new owner may add gaming to the mix. The X Games will be held in Aspen, Colorado, from January 27th to January 29th, and viewers can still watch on the networks.
