One of the greatest pitchers in the history of the St. LouisCardinals isn't ready to call it quits.
According to Goold, the pitcher will return to St. Louis next year.
He signed a one-year deal to stay with the team. He left the door open to come back for another year if he decided to retire.
He said in March that he thought it was probably his last year, but he wouldn't say it was his last year. I don't know if I'll retire until I know. I am having a great time pitching. I think I can do it at a high level, so I'm not crossing that bridge.
It was a strong season for the pitcher, who went 11-12 with a 3.71 earned run and 143 strikeouts.
He has spent his entire MLB career with the Cards. He assumed the team's closer role as a relief pitcher. The National League Championship Series and World Series were won by St. Louis. He emerged as the team's ace after returning to starting pitching.
In the past, he has finished in the top three in Cy Young Award voting four times. He won the Roberto Clemente Award in 2020 and two gold gloves.
