The 19-year-old Dalot was the best full-back in Europe in his age group when he was signed by Man United. Over the last four years, there have been times when the assessment of the player has been way off the mark.

Three months into the season, Dalot is one of only two players who have started every single game under Hag. No United player has had more touches of the ball than Dalot, who has made more passes than any other player in the league.

It wasn't long ago that he was on loan to Milan with Solskjaer, who had just signed a £50m right-back from Crystal Palace.

Dalot was so focused on making the most of his time in Italy that he sometimes slept at the training ground. During his second season in England, he was limited to just 11 appearances due to injuries, but most of the problems were caused by growing pains. He hasn't had a serious injury for more than two years and has worked hard to stay in shape.

During Dalot's time in Milan, Solskjaer remained in regular contact with him and when the Italian side tried to sign him permanently in the summer of 2021, their interest was knocked back. He likes offensive full-backs. "He likes proactive full-backs, so we have to always think a little bit ahead of what the game is asking, not feel the game when the ball is on the other side."

Dalot used part of his summer holiday in Portugal to work with a personal trainer, a doctor and a nutritionist in order to impress Ten Hag. Dalot has improved his agility and speed, so far, it's paying off, as he has the third fastest sprint in the league behind Darwin Nunez and Gabriel Martinelli

When Dalot was signed, United's boss was sure he had found a gem. After just one game he was talking about the club finding a right-back for the next 10 years.

When Dalot was a teenager, he was predicted to hit the heights that he is now achieving. Dalot's first two international goals helped Portugal beat the Czech Republic.

After cementing his place as United's first-choice right-back, he is set to go to the World Cup next month to challenge for a place Someone will make a note that he was correct all along.
