The Starlink for RV satellite internet service will be available in December of 2022. While you have been able to mount one of the satellite dishes onto or outside of a stationary vehicle for a while now, it was intended for use only at a campsite or remote cabin. When you pack up and hit the road, you won't have to pay for internet, but that ability won't be cheap.
The Starlink for RV service requires a $2,500 Flat High Performance dish to use in motion. There was an additional fee when I visited the order screen.
The service costs the same as the internet connection. Starlink explains that network resources are always de-prioritized for Starlink for RV users compared to other Starlink services, resulting in degraded service and slower speeds in congested areas.
The price to get this service up and running on your rig is likely to go up if you are not confident in your own skills.
The FAQ for Starlink is as follows.
In-motion use is supported for users with Starlink RV service meeting the following criteria:
Using Flat High Performance Starlink
Starlink is securely installed with the Wedge mount included with the Flat High Performance Starlink kit.
Using Flat High Performance Starlink while in-motion without the Wedge mount, or using any other Starlink model will void the limited warranty of your Starlink.
Customers in certain markets are able to order it, but only if they promise high-speed, low-latency internet.
The FCC granted permission for the system to be used on moving vehicles earlier this summer, but the company has been building this capability for a while. Since then, the company has said that it will be coming to airplanes and cruise ships, so it makes sense that it would be cars as well.
