DC films, TV, and animation will be led by James Gunn at Warner Bros. According to the Hollywood Reporter, he has been named a part of the leadership for the comic book franchises with producer Peter Safran, who is also the co-CEOs of DC Studios.
James was the one who confirmed the news on social media.
The business and production side of things will be taken over by the two men. They shared, "We look forward to collaborating with the most talented writers, directors, and actors in the world to create an integrated, multi-dimensional universe that still allows for the individual expression of the artists involved." The wonder of human possibility these characters represent is what makes our commitment to them equal. We are excited to bring some of the biggest, most beautiful, and grandest stories ever told to the stage. Both will continue to be active filmmakers as they have releases in the works. The studios are at Disney.
David Zaslav is the current president of Warner Bros. Their decades of experience in filmmaking, close ties to the creative community, and proven track record thrilling superhero fans around the globe make them uniquely qualified to develop a long-term strategy across film, TV, and animation. He should stick to his word. If new leadership at WB commits to trusting him, he will be able to really shake things up.
We can't wait to see what happens at the new DC Studios. Batgirl might get pulled out of her cave.
