The letter to President Joe Biden was released by staff without vetting and was withdrawn by the chair of the Congressional Progressives Caucus.

The idea that a release left her office without her approval was absurd.

"I wouldn't be surprised if they hit send without her knowing," the former staffer wrote. Everyone who has worked with her knows that she is very controlling of the media. She has held up press releases over small edits and delayed letting staff hit send while she changes her language.

30 Democrats signed a letter on Monday calling on Biden to negotiate with Russia to end the war in Ukraine. The letter urged Biden to "pair the military and economic support the United States has provided to Ukraine with a proactive diplomatic push."

She accepted responsibility for the release of the letter after it was withdrawn Tuesday.

A person who answered the request for comment did not reply.

Some members of Congress give their communications staff a lot of freedom, while others micromanage their press operation. The former Hill staffer said that the congressman is the latter.

The former staffer said that you can't blame the staff and then accept responsibility in the next line of your statement. That doesn't work that way. I don't think it was released by staff. She doesn't run her office that way.

The Monday letter was described as an olive branch to a war criminal.

He said "Ukraine is on the march" and that Congress should back Biden's strategy.

The US has not heard from Moscow that they are prepared to engage in diplomacy and dialogue.
