Although there is little to see in terms of federal relief from record-breaking inflation, some states are helping their residents. Twenty states are sending one-time rebates to eligible taxpayers. Families getting slammed by inflation could be helped by these payment amounts. If you live in a state that sends out aStimulus check, how much money you can get, and when you can expect to get it in the mail, read on.

California

The amount is from $200 to $1,050. You can get an estimate of your payment amount based on your income, filing status, and dependents.

California's middle class tax refund is available to residents.

  • Filed a 2020 California tax return by Oct. 15, 2021.
  • Did not exceed certain income limits in 2020.
  • Couldn’t be claimed as a dependent on someone else’s 2020 tax year.
  • Were a California resident for at least six months in 2020.

The majority of direct deposits should be issued in October. If you received a Golden State Stimulus payment last year or early this year, you will get your California Middle Class Tax Refund payment in October. Middle Class Tax Refund debit cards will be sent by the state between October 24 and December 10, 2022.

Colorado

$750 for single filers and $1,500 for joint filers.

Coloradans 18 years of age or older who were residents of the state for all of the year will receive cash back.

If you filed your return by June 30, physical checks would be issued by September 30. The payment will be made by January 31, 2023 if you received an extension to file.

Connecticut

For a maximum of three children, the cost is $750.

The Child Tax Rebate is for residents who claimed at least one child (18 years or younger) as a dependent of their 2021 federal income tax return and whose federal adjusted gross income doesn't exceed $100,000 for single filers and married couples filing separately.

The applications were due in July. Payments were sent by the state in August.

Delaware

The amount is $300.

Who filed their taxes?

The first round of payments took place in May. During the summer, additional payments were made.

Florida

$450 per family, how much?

The types of residents who qualified for the one-time payment were listed below.

  • Foster parent
  • Guardianship Assistance Program participant
  • Recipient of Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) assistance
  • Relative caregiver
  • Non-relative caregiver

Payments were sent in July of the following year. You can call the Florida Department of Children and Families if you didn't get a check.

Georgia

Up to $250 for single filers, up to $375 for head-of-household filers, and up to $500 for married couples filing a joint return.

Who are residents who filed a 2020 and 2021 Georgia income tax return? You won't get a check if you file both returns.

  • Used an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) when filing a return (although you may eventually qualify for a refund after responding to a letter from the Georgia Department of Revenue);
  • Didn’t owe any tax for 2020; or
  • Were claimed as a dependent on someone else’s 2020 tax return.

The first refunds were sent in May 2022,

Hawaii

Depending on your tax year filing status and adjusted gross income, you can get $100 or $300 per family member.

You need to be a Hawaii resident for at least nine months in order to file an income tax return for 2021.

If you can be claimed as a dependent on another person's federal or Hawaii tax return, or if you have been convicted of a crime, you don't qualify.

Direct deposit payments began in September. Physical checks won't be out until late October.

Idaho

The first one is the greater of $75 per family member or 12% of the tax liability before credits, "other" taxes, payments, and donations. The second amount is equal to the greater of $600 for married couples filing a joint return or $300 for all other couples, or 10% of the tax liability before credits, "other" taxes, payments, and donations.

Residents who file Idaho income tax returns by the end of 2022, are eligible for the payments

Most of the payments have already been made. The second round of payments took place in September. The Idaho Tax Commission has an online tool that you can use.

Illinois

The state of Illinois is giving out two tax refunds this year, one for income taxes and one for property taxes. For married couples who file a joint return, each resident gets $100, as well as $100 for up to three dependents. You can get up to $300 if you claim the property tax credit. Depending on your tax return.

If your adjusted gross income on your Illinois tax return is less than $200,000, you can get the income tax rebate. You need to be an Illinois resident who paid Illinois property taxes on your primary residence in 2020 in order to be eligible for the property tax rebate.

It is expected to take several months before all payments are delivered. The Illinois Department of Revenue has an online tool that you can use.

Indiana

The first payment is $125 and the second is $200.

You had to file a 2020 Indiana tax return by January 3, 2022. You can qualify for the first and second automatic taxpayer refunds. If this is the case, you have to file a tax return in Indiana in 2022.

The first round of rebates began in May. The second payment is expected to be delivered by the end of the month.

Maine

$850 per person or $1,700 for a married couple

31, 2022; (2) can't be claimed as a dependent of anyone else's Maine tax return; and (3) have a federal adjusted gross income of $150,000 or less.

Residents have until the end of this month to file their 2021 Maine tax return, but the state started sending payments in June. You can use the online tool from Maine Revenue Services.

Massachusetts

The exact amount has not been determined. The recipient has an income tax liability in Massachusetts.

The residents who file their return by October 17th will be named.

The payments are expected to start in November.

New Jersey

The ANCHOR Tax Relief Program depends on whether you are an owner or a renter.

  • Homeowners with a 2019 household income of $150,000 or less will receive $1,500.
  • Homeowners with household income from $150,001 to $250,000 will receive $1,000.
  • Qualified renters (income of $150,000 or less) will get a $450 rebate.

New Jersey residents who own or rent a primary home in the state on October 1, 2019. It is not possible for homeowners to have a household income greater than $250,000. There is a limit on the amount of money that can be rented.

Middle Class Tax Rebates could be given to some New Jersey residents. Qualified New Jersey residents can still get a payment once they file their 2020 tax return.

Payments will be sent in the spring of the following year. The applications will be accepted until the end of the year.

New Mexico

New Mexico is sending out two tax refunds, the first of which is $500 for joint filers, head-of-household filers, and surviving spouses with incomes under $150,000. For joint filers, head-of-household filers, and surviving spouses, there is a second rebate of $1,000.

What are the New Mexico taxpayers who qualify?

  • Married couples filing joint returns, head-of-household filers, and surviving spouses with 2021 incomes under $150,000
  • Single filers and married people filing separately with an income under $75,000.
  • Your 2021 state tax return is filed by May 31, 2023.
  • You can’t be claimed as a dependent on someone else’s return.

The first and second rounds of payments began in July and August of 2022, respectively. The return must be filed by May 31, 2023 in order for additional payments to be sent.

New York

New York state homeowners should have received property tax refunds of up to $1,000. The average New York City household received $425 back. The New York Department of Taxation and Finance has an online checker that you can use to find out how much you qualify for. The state says the average payment will be around $270.

If a homeowner qualifies for a STAR credit or exemption, they can receive an advance payment of a new income tax credit. The 2020 income must be less than $250,000.

The state of New York is sending payments to people who received at least $100 for either or both of the state's child credit or earned income credit. Unless a filing extension is granted, a New York State income tax return must be filed by April 18th, 2022.

By the end of August, homeowners who received a school tax relief credit should have received a check. You can file a claim before the end of November if you think you are eligible.

Oregon

$600 per household, how much?

Who claimed the state's earned income tax credit on their 2020 Oregon income tax return? They had to file their Oregon tax return by the end of the year.

Payments went out in June and ended in July.

Pennsylvania

The amount of property tax for eligible homeowners varies from $250 to $650. The standard payback is either $500 or $650 for renters. Seniors can get a rebate of up to 970 dollars. The property tax rebate for those who received it last year will be 70% of the amount in 2020.

People who are over 65 years old, a widow 50 years old, or a person with disabilities are eligible for the program. 50% of your Social Security benefits are not included in the income limit for homeowners and renters.

August 22nd was when checks were delivered. You have until the end of the year to apply for payments.

Rhode Island

The amount is up to a maximum of $750 for children who were 18 years old or younger at the end of the year.

The Child Tax Rebate depends on your income and filing status. If your federal adjusted gross income is $200,000 or less, you can get a rebates. Your federal AGI can't be more than $100,000.

The state started sending checks in October. There are checks on a rolling basis. The state will begin mailing checks in December 2022. The Rhode Island Division of Taxation has an online tool that you can use.

South Carolina

The actual amount won't be announced until at least November.

If you file a 2021 South Carolina income tax return by February 15, you will be eligible for a tax rebate in 2022.

The original filing deadline was October 17th, but was pushed back to February 15th due to Hurricane Ian.

If you file your return by October 17, 2022, you will get your rebate by December 31, 2022, The check will be issued by March 31, 2023 if you file between October 17, 2022, and February 15,23.

Virginia

Up to $250 or $500 for a married couple.

Who are residents who need to file a Virginia income tax return by Nov. 1, 2022. There is more information on the Virginia Department of Taxation's website.

The soft launch of the rebates began on September 16. The agency expects to give out nearly three million refunds by the end of the month. Residents who filed by July 1 should get their money by October 31. You should receive your payment within four months from the day you file your return.
