The New York State supreme court ordered New York City to pay back wages to government employees who were fired because of their refusal to get the Covid-19 vaccine.

The city's health commissioner ordered all employees to be inoculated against the virus. Mayor Eric Adams signed a supplementary executive order carving out exemptions for athletes, musicians, and other performers after private sector employees were ordered to do the same.

The New York State constitution was also found to be in violation by the court.

A new condition of employment for city employees cannot be created by the health commissioner. The opinion states that certain employees can't be exempt from the orders. The decision to vaccination against Covid-19 is not a commentary on the efficacy of the vaccine.

No one would be exempt if it was about safety. The City of New York needs to do what is right and what is just.

A spokesman for the law department said that the city strongly disagrees with the ruling as the mandate is firmly grounded in law.
