There is an email with the subject line, "Enroll today to earn big bonus rewards," and it offers the chance to earn an additional 5 miles per dollar on grocery, drugstore and restaurant purchases from October 21 through January 19
You have to enroll by December 5.

Up to 3,500 bonus miles can be earned from October 21 through January 19 for eligible cardholders. The promotional period has a limit on the amount of the bonus that can be spent.
The bonus miles are added to the miles you earn on your card. 2 miles per dollar can be earned on eligible American Airlines purchases. 3 miles per dollar is earned on eligible American Airlines purchases, 2 miles per dollar on hotels and car rentals, and 1 mile on all other purchases. The silver card is only available if you upgrade from the red card.
If you use the offer to shift some of your spending to your card, you can receive bonus AAdvantage miles, especially for those everyday purchases that only receive one mile per dollar. The 3,500 bonus miles you can earn are worth around $60 according to the latest valuation.

Spending with a credit card is counted towards American's loyalty points. This only applies to base miles earned. You will still get one Loyalty Point for every dollar you spend with this bonus offer.
According to the terms, the offer is for select cardmembers and is not transferable. Some staffers with the company's cards don't seem to be eligible.
From your email, click theEnroll button. You'll need to log in to your account.
When you log in, you will see the box to enroll and click on it.
There is a thank you message on the next screen.
If you didn't receive the email, you can try to log in to your account and navigate to the offers tab at the top. If you aren't targeted, your account will look similar to that of Nick Ewen.
If the bonus offer extends to other cards, you should check them. The staffer received an offer on his card to earn 3 points for every dollar spent on groceries, drugstores, and restaurants.
