Yesterday, Apple added support for Nintendo's updated classic game controllers in its round of Mac, iPad, and Apple TV updates. According to developer Steve Troughton- Smith, Nintendo's modern controllers can be used with updated Apple devices, whether using a wired or wireless connection.

While neither MacStories nor Troughton- Smith was able to test the compatibility of the controllers with Apple devices, we are assuming that Apple added the same function. We will update this article if we hear back from Apple.

Apple does not specify which game controllers are supported by the Game Controller framework on macOS Ventura and iPadOS 16. The same note was included in both the tvOS 16 release notes and the iOS 16 release notes.

The classic controllers were made available to use with Nintendo's online service. It also has a library of N64 games, but it costs an extra $49.99 for one year of access on top of the Nintendo online subscription.

If you want to play games with the classic controllers, you don't need a subscription to Nintendo's online service. In June, Apple added support for the Nintendo Switch Pro and Joy-Con controllers for the iPad and iPhone.
