On-loan Balogun on life in Ligue 1

If Nigeria asked him to play for them, he would consider it.

He was born in the U.S. to Nigerian parents and has represented England at four different levels.

Under the rules of football's governing body, the Super Eagles would be able to sign Balogun because he has not played for England.

Despite scoring his seventh goal for the Young Lions in a friendly against Germany in September, he hasn't ruled out playing for Nigeria in the future.

"Nigeria is very close to my heart, so I'm open to anything," he said.

My family is from that place. I have a lot of affection for Nigeria.

There was a time when Nigeria welcomed the possibility of having a player in their team.

The Super Eagles coach said back in 2020 that he could add bite to his attack.

Even though he scored 11 goals in 26 England caps, he will not close the door on Nigeria.

"That's a conversation that I need to have with people around me, my agent and obviously my family," said the player.

If I was asked about the chance to play for Nigeria, I could have that discussion. I need to be questioned.

The Red and Whites won their first home game of the season on Sunday when Balogun scored the opener against Auxerre.

He said it was a great feeling to score in front of his family but also to get the win for the team.

Balogun joined the academy in 2012 and has played in 10 games for the team.

He scored his first goal againstMolde in the same competition as he made his debut against Dundalk in the European competition.

In the second half of last season, he spent time on loan at Championship side Middlesbrough, but only scored three times and provided three assists.

After his loan spell in France, he would like to follow in the footsteps of William Saliba and become a first team regular.

He scored seven goals in 12 games in his first season in northern France and is currently fifth in the league's top scorer's list.

He has become a fan favorite and supporters want him to stay at the club, but he is only focused on his progress.

The 21-year-old said that he had a lot of advice telling him that this would be a good league for him.

I'm happy that I can help the team now that I'm here.

You never know what's going to happen. I try to stay focused on what I'm doing with the team.
