One of the most widespread and long lasting problems for the Meta-owned instant messaging and voice calling app that is used by over 2 billion people and millions of businesses worldwide went on for over an hour.
According to user complaints, the outage started at 12.20 AM. The messaging service says it is working to fix the problem. The company didn't give a reason for the problem.
Users can't send or receive new messages, they can't update their profile information, and they can't sign up forWhatsApp. DownDetector, a service that tracks services performance, said it has received over 80,000 complaints about a glitch in a single hour.
According to WaBetaInfo, the issue is on the server side and won't be fixed until Meta resolves it.
Meta is aware that some people are having trouble sending messages and they are working to restore the service for everyone.
Billions of people, as well as government officials, telecom service providers and many other people, use the messaging service. The service sent over 100 billion messages a day as of 2020.
60 billion messages were exchanged on Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp in the first few months of the year. Apple chief executive Tim Cook said in May 2020 that there was a record amount of usage. The last time Apple shared the figure, it was a long way behind the use of the app. It is behind in daily volume of messages.
The app is unable to connect to the server, as well as several other errors, being seen by users.
