Rhamondre Stevenson's touchdown is set up by DeVanteParker's acrobatic catch over two defenders. It was 0:49
After replacing starting quarterback Mac Jones in the first half, the New England Pats looked like they were going to make things difficult for the Bears with a pair of quick second-quarter touchdown.
In the end, the Bears ran away with a 33-14 victory.
The Bears and the Pats both have 3-4 records.
The Bears like to play weather games. The San Francisco 49ers were beaten by them in the season opener. The turf and fog at Gillette Stadium were not a factor in the 33-14 win over the Pats.
A three-game losing streak was snapped by the Bears. During the mini-bye week, Chicago coaches promised to change personnel and scheme. The offense was given a boost by the rushing ability ofJustin Fields. The Bears used designed runs for their second-year quarterback. In Week 7, Chicago scored 33 points, which was the most in a game.
The general manager of the Bears held a news conference hours before the game to address the state of the team. His message was not immediately known. The Bears need to learn how to finish games after coming so close. The win on "Monday Night Football" is a step in the right direction.
The game plan was to get Fields on the move. Fields had the most rushes (12) and rushing yards (55) on designed runs in his career by the end of the first half. The Bears were able to score on five straight drives because of their quarterback's legs, which was a benefit to the team. Fields had a team-high 22 rushing yards and went 13-of-21 for 179 yards and a touchdown. Fields has looked all season like this. He was patient and went through his progressions in ways he hadn't before. The quarterback can build on the win.
Fields is one of two players in the past 30 seasons to have more than 100 passing yards and 70 rushing yards along with at least one passing and rushing touchdown in the first half. Russell Wilson was the last one to do it.
Following their Week 6 loss to Washington, the Bears made changes to their personnel and scheme. Designed runs, RPOs, quick throws and an increase in pre-snap motion helped the Bears establish the tone on offense. The Bears went 11 of 17 on third down, just shy of the most third-down conversions allowed by a Bill Belichick defense. Fields was able to avoid pressure in a number of ways thanks to the moving pockets. The wide receiver had four catches for 48 yards after not being targeted against the Commanders. Dante Pettis took over for Velus Jones Jr. and returned a punt 27 yards for a touchdown.
Poles defended the decision to take defensive backs with their top two picks instead of addressing needs at wide receiver and the offensive line. Both of their top rookies, Kyler Gordon and Jaquan Brisker, came away with picks up. The Bears' secondary is in great hands.
At Cowboys, the next game will be played. It's Sunday.
There is a quarterback controversy in New England. Mac Jones' return from a high left ankle injury didn't go as planned, and Bailey Zappe gave the offense a spark when he entered the game in the second quarter, but he ran out of gas in the second half.
According to the coach, the plan was to play both quarterbacks. Jones threw his sixth pick up of the season in the third series. The home crowd started chanting "Zappe!" when the pass hung in the air. It's a lot of fun! It's a lot of fun!
Jones was 3-of-13 for 13 yards and the pick, while Zappe was 14-of-22 for 185 yards, with a touchdown, two picks and a lost fumbled ball.
It's the biggest hole in the game plan. The defense struggled to get off blocks, despite being stout in wins over the Lions and Cleveland. Fields ran 10 times for 74 yards and a touchdown in the first half. It was the most rushing yards the quarterback had in a half in the last ten years. Nine designed runs were called for Fields by the Bears.
The Bears built a 33-14 lead early in the fourth quarter as the defense couldn't get off the field on third down.
The game was blown out. The Bears came into the stadium and made their mark.
The left tackle was called for four penalties, three of which came within the first two drives. He tripped and was called for holding twice. The starting right tackle, who was inactive due to a shoulder injury, had eight penalties on the year.
The next game is at the Jets. It's Sunday.
