The Vegas Golden Knights and Toronto Maple Leafs played a game on Monday night, with Phil Kessel tying the NHL record for games played in a row.

The streak began when he was a member of the Leafs. The streak that ended on March 29, 2022, was established by the Philadelphia Flyer's defense of the year, led byKeithYandle.

When the Golden Knights visit the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday, Kessel will play in his 970th straight game for sole possession of the ironman record.

I think it's a cool thing. I played a lot of games. Before the contest, he said. I'm not sure. I just try to do my job. Over the years, I have been lucky.

After a quick whistle, six seconds in, he hopped onto the bench after being on the ice for the opening draw.

The 400th goal of a Golden Knight was scored by Phil Kessel in the first period. On an incorrect call, it was overturned. He assisted on Nicolas Roy's power play goal.

Doug Jarvis' NHL record run of 962 games that ended in October 1987 was broken by the retiredYandle. As soon as the new mark was set, many thought that Kessel would catch him. His first season with the Golden Knights saw him play over 1000 games.

There were times when he was worried about his streak ending.

There have been a lot of those. He said that they are here now. A lot of luck. You could have missed some nights.

It wasn't an injury that ended the streak. After playing one 30-second shift against the Red Wings to keep his streak alive, he hopped on a charter flight for the birth of his daughter, Kapri Mary. He came back to the team the next day in Toronto to keep the streak going.
