Countdown crew praises Jets for James Robinson trade (1:05)

The Jets traded for James Robinson. Affirmative.

8:01 PM ET

According to sources, the New York Jets agreed to acquire running back James Robinson in a trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

If Robinson runs for 600 yards this season, the Jets will send a sixth-round pick to the Jags. He has over 300 yards.

With the Nov. 1 trade deadline approaching, general manager Joe Douglas scoured the market for a replacement. One of the league's top success stories, Robinson, lost his starting job and became expendable.

Robinson and Carter can be used as a 1-2 punch by the Jets. Robinson should allow them to continue with their ground-oriented attack since he's a high-volume back. Ty Johnson is also a part of the team.

Replacing Hall's production will be hard. He averages 5.8 yards per carry and has scored a touchdown in four straight games.

Robinson will be a restricted free agent after the season, meaning the Jets have an opportunity to retain his rights for the next five years.

In the last two games of the season, Robinson was benched and replaced by Etienne, who ran for 200 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries in losses to the Colts and Giants.

In his three seasons with the Jags, Robinson has rushed for 2,177 yards and 18 touchdown, with 1,070 yards and 7 touchdown in 2020. He had 1,414 yards from scrimmage that season, which was the most by an unheralded rookies.

Robinson tore his left ankle in the Week 16 loss to the Jets and missed the rest of the season.

Robinson ran for 66 yards and a touchdown and caught a touchdown pass in Jacksonville's loss to the Washington Commanders in the opening game of the 2020 season. He carried the ball a season-high 23 times in Week 2 and 17 times in Week 3.

Robinson did not record a carry or reception in a game for the first time in his career in the loss to the Giants. Robinson wasn't listed on the injury report last week because he was dealing with some knee pain, according to Pederson.

The trade was reported by the network.
