The Newark Liberty International Airport is about to undergo a major transformation.

The Newark airport is managed by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

The Port Authority will be working with Arup and SOM. In the past, Arup and SOM have worked on many aviation projects at major airports, including John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York and Los Angeles International Airport.

Projections for growth into the 2060's and beyond will be built by the firms. A complete transformation of the airport is likely to be included in the master plan created by the firms.

It looks like the Port Authority is serious about making changes to Newark's infrastructure.

The airport suffers from a lot of congested airside and landside areas. The passenger experience is in dire need of a big change.

The Newark facility will hopefully be brought into the next generation as a result of the designation of a masterplanner. The Port Authority wants to turn the New Jersey transit hub into a world-class airport like the one in New York.

The Port Authority opened a brand-new Terminal B at LaGuardia in mid 2020 and the project just hit 100% completion. A new arrivals and departures hall, as well as new gate areas, were some of the improvements made to Delta's Terminal C.

The opening of a brand-new Terminal A in the coming weeks will give flyers a glimpse of what's to come when Newark is redeveloped.

The new terminal is more than one million square feet and will hold 33 gates once construction is completed. The new terminal is the largest investment in New Jersey by the Port Authority.

A parking garage and a consolidated rental car facility are in the final stages of construction with a partial opening expected later this year and a full opening in 2023.

As the Newark redevelopment progresses, keep an eye out for more updates.
