The Clean Energy Charging option in the newest version of the software allows users to cut down on their carbon footprints. Lower carbon emission electricity is available for those who want a green charging method.
A support document for Clean Energy Charging has been published by Apple, giving more details on how it works, how to disabling it can be done, and which settings are needed to get it to work.
In order to function, Clean Energy Charging requires location services, system customization, and significant locations to be enabled in the settings section.
If you want to turn it off, you have to go to the settings section of the battery health and charging website.
When Clean Energy Charging is enabled, the iPhone will be able to get a forecast of carbon emissions in the nearby energy grid and use that to charge the phone.
When the iPhone is charged for long periods of time, such as at home or work, Apple says that Clean Energy Charging can be used to learn a user's habits. It doesn't engage if the user is in a new location or if the charging habits are unchanging.
When Clean Energy Charging is turned off, a notification on the Lock Screen tells you when the phone will be fully charged. The "Charge Now" option is available if you touch and hold the notification.
