One of the two Dallas hospital employees who police say were fatally shot over the weekend by a 30-year-old man who opened fire after accusing his girlfriend of infidelity, has been identified. The Dallas County medical examiner's office said that Pokuaa died in the Methodist Dallas Medical Center shooting. The manner and cause of death were still being reviewed by the office, but they weren't ready to release the identity of the other person.
There was a shooting at 11 a.m. authorities have said. He was at the hospital for the birth of a child. He was shot and wounded by a police officer and taken to another medical facility for care after he was paroled from prison.
A capital murder charge has been filed against him. The spokeswoman for the Dallas County Sheriff's Department didn't know if he had an attorney.
Police haven't given any information about what happened in the shooting. According to an arrest warrant affidavit obtained by WFAA-TV, when he was at the hospital for the birth of his child, he accused his girlfriend of cheating on him and then struck her in the head with a gun.
According to the Dallas TV station's account of the affidavit, he told his girlfriend and family that he was going to kill them. Two employees entered the room before a police officer shot him in the leg.
Two nurses were killed when a man opened fire in a maternity ward. The hospital police shot the suspect. While on parole, he was allowed to be with his partner, who was giving birth at the hospital.
The girlfriend's health and how he got a gun while on parole have not been released by authorities. The district clerk's office didn't receive the affidavit from the police. A spokeswoman for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice said that he was released on parole after being sentenced for robbery. She said he was given leave to be with his partner at the hospital.
Police said that he was wearing an ankle monitor during the shooting.
According to Dallas County records, the man has been arrested multiple times since 2011.
