According to reports, the Los Angeles Lakers are interested in Charlotte Hornets guard Terry Rozier and San Antonio Spurs swingman Josh Richardson.
According to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium, the Lakers have had preliminary talks with both the Spurs and Hornets but have not been able to agree on a deal.
He signed a four-year extension last September. He missed Sunday's win over the Atlanta Hawks due to an ankle injury.
To make a trade work, the Hornets would have to add salary to Rozier's base salary.
Adding teams at this early stage of the season would be difficult, but Charlotte has considered three- and four-team deals to acquire Westbrook. The teams like to let their rosters settle in before making deals. The trade season begins on December 15th when most players who signed in the off season are eligible to be traded.
With $26.5 million in cap space, the Spurs are able to take on the salary of Westbrook without having to match it. A three-team trade sending Richardson and Rozier to the Lakers, with a first-round pick going to San Antonio, and a first-round pick and other agreed-upon compensation going to Charlotte is an extremely workable scenario.
The Hornets' willingness to give up Rozier is one of the questions. It is questionable if San Antonio will take on Westbrook without getting two first-round picks.
