PassKeys are being added as a new password-less login method for users of the Apple products, with plans to add support for other platforms as they are added. The passkeys will be available in additional countries early in the next decade.

Passkeys are a new type of password replacement that uses a pair of keys. They are resistant to phish attempts and are designed to avoid sharing passkey data between platforms. PassKeys are supported by Apple, Microsoft, and others who have pledged to bring the FIDO Alliance standard to their respective OSes.

PassKeys are end-to-end secure.

Reusing passwords across online accounts leaves users open to hacking and other vulnerabilities but remembering individual login details is no easy task without a secure password manager Over 2.6 billion records were hacked last year, with 81 percent of them being caused by password stealing and guessing.

Existing users will be able to create a passkey after logging into their account via a mobile web ordesktop browser. The setup will need to be verified with Apple Face ID or Touch ID. A passkey will be generated and uploaded to the cloud. The feature is only available on the desktop and mobile web and will be supported on the app in the future.
