Hays Travel North West bought two World Travel Lounge branches.

Hays Travel North West has increased its retail chain to 46 high street stores after the acquisition of the World Travel Lounge branches.

All of the staff from the two World Travel Lounge branches have been retained by the agency.

Don Bircham said the group would continue to look at opportunities for further growth, but that the focus was on acquisition.

He said: "Expansion is now driven by purchasing opportunities rather than opening greenfield sites and that will certainly be the way forward for the time being."

Hays Travel North West was interested in talking to agency owners who were looking to sell.

He said it was a difficult time in terms of cash flow. Some people will leave the industry after a couple of years. The right locations would be important in any sale deal.

Managers from the two World Travel Lounge stores are currently going through a training process and Hays will be put up once the legal process is completed.

The towns are great for us to open in. We know from our experience in other places that locations like this suit our business model.

There are still eight World Travel Lounge branches left.

The group will focus on the high streets of smaller towns in the northwest. Hays Travel's retail footprint seemed a natural fit for us to approach, as we wanted to realign our estate to fit with our plans.
