Commanders hang on after Packers' wild final sequence fails (0:30)

The Packers ran a number of plays to try and score against the Commanders, but the play ended in a loss. It was 0: 30.

Three straight losses, all when they were the favorites, and with their most dangerous opponent next up on the schedule seems to have the Green Bay Packers slipping away.

Maybe Sunday's 23-21 loss to the Washington Commanders, which featured more of the Packers' season long struggles on offense and dropped them to 3-4, was the worst of it.

Even if he wasn't able to prove it, Rodgers thinks it could be.

This season feels like it can be saved, according to the four-time Superbowl winning quarterback.

When asked if it was possible for the Packers to make the playoffs, Rodgers said it was. I don't worry about this squad. This could be the best thing for us. Nobody is going to give us a chance to go to Buffalo with a chance to get exposed. This may be the best thing for us.

The Packers lost a game at FedEx Field in 2016 to fall to 3-6. The "run the table" assertion was offered by Rodgers a few days later. The Packers won their final six games of the regular season and two more in the playoffs to get to the title game.

"I don't think anyone thought we'd be in this position," said Matt LaFleur, who is facing his first three-game losing streak in four seasons as the Packers' coach. We will find out how we attack Monday, how we attack Tuesday, Wednesday and every day in practice. I think we have the right kind of guys that will keep fighting.

Their struggles would be one-sided.

The defense was supposed to be the strength of this Packers team; instead, Green Bay has lost two games in a row to quarterbacks. The Packers finally got a big play when De'Vondre Campbell picked off a pass and ran it back for a touchdown. Jaire Alexander had a hard time against Commanders receiver Terry McLaurin.

It wasn't sufficient for a team.

  • The Packers are scoring 18.3 points per game, which would be their lowest point total in seven years.

  • It was the first time since 1999 that the Packers didn't convert on third down and the first time they didn't score a touchdown.

  • Can't find a way to get the ball down the field, with Rodgers averaging only 3.2 air yards on his completions Sunday after entering the day with the second-lowest average in the league.

In the post- Davante Adams era, the offense is still not settled. After missing four games, Sammy Watkins returned to action for the Packers on Sunday. Watkins did not come close to catching a deep ball from Rodgers.

The offensive line shakeup couldn't be used in full because the left tackle's knee acted up. The Packers didn't get much production outside of Allen Lazard (7 catches for 55 yards before a shoulder injury knocked him out) and the other two players.

There are too many mental mistakes outside of those two guys. Last week, I spoke about simplification. I don't know where to start. There has to be something inside that is accountable for our performance. It isn't winning football.

Rodgers said that he came into the game with the idea that he would try to make more plays outside the pocket but never did.

Rodgers thinks he might need to do that a bit more. I had a thought that I might look to do that a bit more. Today, I didn't do it enough.

It takes everyone to turn things around, according to LaFleur. Everybody surrounds him. It's important that you have the protection in front of you. The guys need to make plays as well. We had a lot of drops. There were a lot of penalties that put us behind the sticks.
