The January 6 committee will treat Donald Trump's testimony seriously and make sure it doesn't mirror his combative 2020 presidential debate with Joe Biden, according to Rep. Liz Cheney.
Cheney told Chuck Todd on NBC's "Meet the Press" that the committee was very serious about the matter.
He won't turn this into a circus. This is not going to be his first debate against Joe Biden and the circus. This is a lot of issues.
The former president was subpoenaed by the committee on Friday and has until November 14 to turn over critical documents.
The committee made clear what his obligations were, according to Cheney.
In response to the committee's decision to subpoena him, Trump sent a letter in which he repeated his false claims about the 2020 election being stolen from him.
The former president is expected to comply with the subpoena. "We made clear in the subpoena that if he wants to take the Fifth that he should alert us of that ahead of time."
The former president will be questioned under oath. It may take more than one day. It will be done with a high level of discipline and rigor.
