Danny Ings scores a penalty against
Danny Ings has scored three goals in the Premier League this season

The perfect start to life was made by Villa as they beat Brentford at home to record only their third win of the season.

The first team coach will take charge of the game on Sunday after the dismissal of ex-captain Steven Gerrard.

Within 15 minutes, Villa were three up and Danks had a great debut.

Leon Bailey got the ball rolling when he swept in from the corner in the second minute.

Danny Ings made it 2-0 five minutes later when he stabbed in from Bailey's cross before he converted a penalty in the 14th minute.

The only chance of the first half for the Bees was a goal-bound volley by Pinnock that was blocked by his teammate.

Instead, the visitors were reliant on David Raya preventing Villa from adding further goals before the half-time break as he kept out efforts from Matt Cash and David.

Even though they were marginally better after the break, ex-Bees forward Ollie Watkins added a fourth when his initial shot had been pushed on to the post.

The win moved Villa up to 14th in the league. They are tenth on 14 points.

Shackles off as Villa show immediate response

This was an unbelievable display by a Villa team who had been struggling to score goals but, seemingly with the shackles off, they let loose.

Before Sunday, Villa were the second lowest scoring team in the league with seven goals, but in just 14 minutes they scored as many goals as they did.

Their build-up play was fast and fast paced, with Brentford struggling to close down the spaces and they could have won by a bigger margin.

John McGinn was benched before the start of the game by Danks, who had been an assistant to Dean Smith. As they look to climb the table quickly, his bold leadership could be just what they need.

Bees stung as away struggles continue

The result of Sunday's defeat was completely out of the blue and came just four days after a great performance against the Blues.

This was one of the worst performances by the visitors since they were promoted to the top flight.

Alarm bells won't be ringing after this loss, which was more likely a consequence of a Villa response to Gerrard's departure and an off day for Brentford.

Frank will be more concerned about the lack of an away win for the Bees than this performance.
