While Cartel and Ernest duke it out, La Jefa gives you a wonderful outdoor space to enjoy your coffee. Coffee and pastries will be well roasted and well made. Check for energy.

Best Palm Springs Restaurants: Lunch & Dinner

Palm Springs has an amazing balance for travelers, with incredible options to eat in and just about all the best doing takeout and delivery. Sometimes, the only thing better than a delicious restaurant meal is having it at home.

Palm Springs has at least 10 restaurants which should win a seal of approval from any food critic, each with their own twist on American classics, or regional mastery from the far reaches of the globe. Here are a few that should be prioritized.

There is a workshop kitchen and bar. The interior and exteriors of the El Paseo building are truly gorgeous. The local, foraged elements of the menu are impressive, and Workshop would be considered a great place to eat in a global city. It is worth the money for the service and quality.

The food was done right. The menu promotes top quality produce and it is seasonal. The Barbuto of old could be compared to it by New Yorkers. It has a great atmosphere and is available for takeout.

Hoja Blanca is a place that serves authentic Mexican food. Four tortillas are not Tex-Mex. Chefs drive food with real ingredients. Everything is equally delicious.

This is a fusion of Chinese and Asian cultures, but without many of the trappings offusion. Outside by the pool, the atmosphere is lovely, each dish is made with care, and as a frequent explorer of Asia, the dishes are authentically spiced. It is a good price and a good meal.

There is an excellent variation on the menu at Cheeky's, a lunch time go to. There are inspired menu items from around the world, like a superb Asian chicken salad to zucchini fritters right out of a Greek taverna, with things like bacon flights and great sandwiches too.

How can you talk about California without making your own food? There is a lot of mass appeal restaurants in town, but the best one is the EJ Jefe at the Saguaro. The roasted sweet potato with herbs and aioli is a great dish for vegetables. There is a list of things.

Southeast Asian food is often simply represented by Thailand in America, but that's not always the case. The dishes are more authentic than Thai. This hole in the wall is an ideal takeout meal because it has all the flavor, heat and aroma of a real article. Order early because it gets busy.

This is a fun, slightly scene'y go to for new American mainstays done well and some creative international twists too. The outdoor seating area is amazing. The food is good and the atmosphere will make you happy.

Even if there is a selection of specialty rolls, Sandfish is still a quality sushi with a more traditional focus. The rolls are good, the nigiri specials are good, but the most mind blowing is the Brussel sprout.

The simple classics with a little twist done right are what Jake's is about. The sandwiches are inventive and the staff is pleasant. Think of a salad with basil and a vinaigrette. There is an expanded menu with great pastries.

Indian food you know and love, some you don't, and all done well, is called monsoon. This predominantly North Indian spot has a lot of the good stuff, but also some of the less well known ones. The cauliflower is hard to eat. If you feel like eating some Indian food, you can't go wrong here.

With more and more young city people moving out to the Palm Springs area permanently, the shopping is on a high, not just the dispensary in the area.

New boutiques and small designers are opening up shop and there is a lot to love from on trend t-shirts made from organic cotton to hand poured candles. There are a few unique shops.

Elizabeth & Prince is a boutique that is done really, really well. There are more than one location for people staying in Palm Desert or La Quinta.

The fabrics all feel right in Palm Springs and the team at the store are knowledgeable without being annoying. They will let you know when it looks great.

The Shops at 1345 brings together a series of small boutiques and galleries into a fun market. You can find everything from throw pillows to jewelry through designer after designer.

The city of Windmill City is finally here. Designers and producers in the area are being championed by this shop. The clothing is more casual and quirky than high fashion. It is a great place to find Joshua Tree Candle Co candles. People are lovely too.

If you want to bring some Palm Springs inspiration to your home, Pelago is the place to go. It is a star among the many inspired homeware and design shops in town and home to prints from the artist Michael Murphy.

The shops, art galleries and coffee spots are located on North Palm Canyon Drive. If you blink, you could miss them. You can pull off into the gorgeous hidden courtyards just off the main strip, located between Alejo and Chino, near the mountains off Palm Canyon.

Things To Do In Palm Springs

You already have your food, drinking and shopping, what else are you going to do? It's just kidding. Hiking, tennis, golf, and a variety of other outdoor activities can be found in Palm Springs.

The Palm Springs Art Museum is a great place to go if it's hot. It is always worth the trip to see the modernist week.

Within walking distance of most places to stay, Ruth Hardy Park is a great place for families to entertain their kids or friends. Hikes are a great way to see the entire valley of Palm Springs.

The Living Desert is a world class zoo and gardens just 20 minutes from Palm Desert. It is open and worth the trip for everyone. The giraffes enjoy a large area where photos could fool friends into thinking they are in Africa.

If you are in Indian Wells in a normal year, it is the home of the biggest tennis tournament in the world and takes place in March. It is going to come back in 2022.

DesertX is an art initiative that brings installations all around Palm Springs and the valley. If you know, this will trend upwards in the future.

If you just sit by the pool tanning, or take a photo while walking through Movie Colony, or any of the old neighborhoods with classic homes, Palm Springs is a great place to relax.

Day Trip: Joshua Tree Excursion

Joshua Tree is a must visit if you aren't in the region often. It is easy to get to from the Palm Springs area. If you want to travel on your own without a guide, you can easily get to the Joshua Tree National park by car.

Late night astronomy with huge telescopes and more is possible thanks to a guide. Even if it isn't cheap, an adventure with the Joshua Tree Excursions team is worth it. There is no better place to see a desert sunset.

It gets cooler at night than you would think. If you plan to stay out after sunset, you should heed the warning.
