There are different types of monsters.

There are big ones, little ones, scary ones, and more than a few gory ones, all of which come into play at some point.

From the invisible demons of Bird Box to the gentle giants of Okja, we've tracked down some of the best monster movies on the internet.

J.A. Bayona's A Monster Calls is similar to Pan's Labyrinth in that it tells the story of a bullied teenage boy. One night a yew tree behind his house comes to life and tells him three stories if he tells it a fourth. The movie is filled with symbolism and weaves the fantasy elements with a story about grief. You will probably not finish this one with dry eyes.

The monsters in Bird Box are still terrifying even though they aren't technically visible. The film Bird Box is based on the novel of the same name by Josh Malerman and is set in a world in which everyone has to cover their eyes. It's a premise that makes for some truly nerve-jangling scenes, with a woman who's forced to take two children on a blindfold journey in order to get to safety. It's a film that's over two hours long, but still leaves you wanting more, although it's not without merit. The edited version is currently available on the streaming service.

If you like your monsters big and your fight scenes packed with sword-play, Bleach may be the one for you. There is an invisible war being played out between "hollows" (monstrous creatures hell-bent on consuming the souls of the innocent) and "reapers" (spirits who guide departed souls to the afterlife). A high school student is caught up in the middle of a battle after meeting a mysterious woman. The sword-fighting sequence and the mask-wearing hollows are some of the best parts of the film.

J.D. Dillard's tale about a woman who washes up on a mysterious island is a survival-thriller. At night, something emerges from the sea and tries to hunt her down as she tries to stay alive. The discussion of class divide and white privilege that lies at the heart of Dillard's story is highlighted by the introduction of other castaways in the second act.

After haunting the nightmares of a whole generation of kids, Alvin Schwartz' classic short horror stories are brought to life inAndré vredal's feature-length 2019: one that's prompted people to look back to the source material.

"After reminiscing with my dad and checking my dark apartment for strangers, I sought out an online copy of the original stories, an action I would not have taken without the cinematic prompting," she wrote.

Each of the torments was relived late into the night and I enjoyed the joke sections of the books. Scary stories are still being told after all these years.

It feels great to be home.

Bong Joon-ho's Okja is a wonderfully unique creature feature that weaves in a message about the horrors of the meat industry. Mina is the granddaughter of a farmer in South Korea who has spent the last 10 years rearing a genetically-modified super-pig called Okja as part of a breeding project spearheaded by a U.S. corporation. The film asks us to stop and reflect on the dark side of an industry that most of us are involved in. There are two villains that make for an entertaining pair.

It's not a perfect movie, some of the special effects look a little dated here and there, but it's still leagues ahead of most monster movies, and comes complete with a chilling human antagonist.

A group of friends hike through northern Sweden to honor a friend who died. Their trip turns into a torturous nightmare with a killer lead performance by Rafe Spall. This movie is divisive and should not be seen together. You'll love the world it creates but not the way it ends. You will love the world it creates and the way it ends. Have a good time with it.
