Gbadyu was hospitalized in intensive care after Bodani revealed his cancer diagnosis in an article. The following was said by Gbadyu in a Facebook post last week.
There is an army in heaven with prayers for me. I can feel God's love for me through this difficult time. My wife, family and kids believe in me, and that's why I'm supported by everyone. I want my journey to be a lesson for someone in the future. We will rely on God and fight on.
As of Saturday night, the page had raised more than $85,000 for Gbadyu and his family.
Gbadyu, who escaped war-torn Liberia with his father and older brother when he was a young boy, played for the Nittany Lions from 2007 to 2010 as a backup and occasional starter.
