A high school volleyball player in North Carolina suffered a serious injury after a ball was thrown at her head.

According to the Daily Mail, the man threw the volleyball at 70 mph. The publication said that one bystander claimed that it was abnormal. A female teammate at Hiwassee Dam High School was injured.

She is still recovering from long term concussion symptoms. She hasn't been approved to compete again.

The Cherokee County school board voted five to one in favor of giving up the games against the player.

The board did not address the fact that a biological male with a significant physical advantage defeated a female player.

According to the minutes from the board's meeting, the county won't participate in any volleyball games against Highlands due to safety concerns.

At the school board meeting, the athletic director of Hiwassee Dam declared that it was unfair and unsafe for his team to play against Highlands.

The vice chair of the school board said there is a competitive advantage for certain teams. The board wasn't looking for this kind of thing. Safety concerns brought it to our attention.

After watching the video of the injury, the board felt like it was a safety concern. Most of the board members felt that there was a competitive advantage.

The scandal with the University of Pennsylvania's Lia Thomas, who excelled and outpaced multiple female title-holders in the sport, happened in North Carolina.
