The residents south of Colorado Springs were ordered to evacuate Saturday afternoon as a fast- moving wildfire approached the city, the latest this year, as active wildfires across the country scorch more than half a million acres.

According to the Denver Post, the fire covers more than 300 acres and is not contained.

The El Paso County Sheriff's office warned all others to stay away from the area.

The cause of the fire is not known.

There are three active wildfires in the state, including the 250-acre Big Dominguez fire in Mesa County, near the Utah border, and the 2,928-acre CR 15 fire in eastern Colorado.
