A 14-year-old girl in Florida is facing felony charges for grand theft after police said she stole $13,500 in cash from her grandmother and gave it to her classmates.

According to the sheriff's office, they don't know why the girl stole the money or why she chose to distribute it.

Sky News reported that police were called to the school on Thursday after it was reported that a girl was giving money to other students.

Parents were contacted by the school to inquire about the incident.

That's when she said yes to mom. The child came up to me and asked for money. She said she didn't want anything to do with it.

Sky News reported that the teenage girl told officers that her friend gave her money to give to other people. The girl told other students the money was hers, according to KDFW.

The sheriff's office and school officials are trying to get the money back and have asked parents to keep an eye on their children. School officials said they found $2,500 in the girl's backpack and $700 was returned by other students.

I hope it gets recovered because it is so devastating. I feel bad for the family, that's what I said.
