The White House has estimated that 43 million borrowers are eligible for relief.

The loan application opened on Monday, offering federal student debt relief to borrowers who make less than $125,000 a year, as well as relief for borrowers who received grants from the federal government.

The number was announced by Biden during a speech at Delaware State University.
