McWright was killed in a traffic crash when he was hit by a school bus while riding a scooter. He was young at the time.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the crash because McWright was hit by a school bus. Officer Mike Lee was allowed to give more information about what happened because of the policy that prevents it from revealing the victim's identity before the family is notified.
The school bus had a green light when it entered an intersection, according to Lee, who cited video and witness statements.
The 18-year-old pedestrian riding an electric scooter entered the intersection at the crosswalk and was crossing to the other side of the street. He was hit by the bus while crossing the street.
He died instantly at the scene.
According to Lee, the scooter McWright was on was a rental from the company Lime.
San Jose State athletic director Jeff Konya said they were crushed by the loss of McWright. The San Jose State community is very close and the campus is very sad. A young man died too soon. Our thoughts and prayers are with the McWrights.
McWright was the Most Valuable Player of his high school league two times. He had three runs for the Spartans.
