Hawaiian Airlines will operate jets on behalf of Amazon in order to make more money.
Hawaiian Airlines will operate a fleet of 10 A330-300 aircraft for Amazon.
In order to move cargo between airports near Amazon's operations facilities, Hawaiian Airlines will maintain and fly Amazon's A330s. There is a chance for this partnership to be expanded further over time.
Hawaiian Airlines doesn't use its own A330s for this. Amazon Air has leased 10 A330-300P2Fs from Altavair. The A330s used to be passenger jets, but will soon be carrying cargo.
In preparation for this new service, Hawaiian Airlines will be establishing pilot bases in the continental United States, will be growing existing maintenance bases, and will hire more employees who will make this operation run.
The CEO of Hawaiian Airlines had a statement about this.
“We are excited to help serve Amazon customers by providing additional air cargo capacity and logistics support. This recognizes our experience in providing safe and reliable operations, our incredible front-line team, and our shared focus on the customer. This relationship provides a catalyst to grow our business and the unique opportunity to diversify our revenue sources while capitalizing on our established strengths.”
Hawaiian Airlines has issued Amazon warrants to purchase up to 15% of its common shares. Over the next nine years, these warrants can be used. The stock of Hawaiian Airlines has shot up as a result of this news.
The company has a lot of packages to ship, but it doesn't say so. Amazon has been growing its Amazon Air division to make it as efficient as possible.
Amazon Air completely outsourcing this operation, which is to say that they used wet leased aircraft from other airlines. Amazon plans to own or lease Amazon Air planes in the future.
The company is still working with other operators to provide crew, maintenance, insurance, and other things.
Amazon Air is going to get its first A330s. I think that Amazon got a good deal on these planes. I think the partnership with Hawaiian Airlines makes sense since the airline already flies A330s.
Amazon Air has a fleet of more than 100 planes, which include Boeing 757s, Boeing 74s, and Boeing 72s. Amazon Air works with several airlines in the US. Atlas Air and Cargojet have partnerships with Amazon Air.
Hawaiian Airlines and Amazon are going to work together. Hawaiian Airlines will be transporting goods for Amazon. Hawaiian Airlines will provide crews, maintenance, etc., even though Amazon acquired the jets.
While Hawaiian Airlines gets an investment from Amazon, the company will be able to broaden its revenue streams by partnering with a company that knows the aircraft type.
