John Schneider was given a three-year contract to manage the Blue Jay's on Friday after they rewarded him for his performance as their interim manager.

Schneider was Toronto's bench coach before he was promoted to interim manager in July. Toronto earned the top American League wild card spot but was swept out of the playoffs in two games by Seattle, blowing an 8-1 lead in the second game.

The general manager said that John demonstrated to them that he was the right leader.

Schneider will be back after Toronto's season ends.

It will be hard for us to find better than John Schneider.

Schneider was a minor league catcher for six years before he became a minor league manager. He joined the Blue Jay's staff in 2019. He was bench coach before the season started.

Schneider's Double-A New Hampshire team won the league title in the Eastern League. The team included current Blue Jays players.

The team option is included in Schneider's contract. He is the 14th manager.

Schneider said in a statement that he was honored and excited to continue leading the group of players, coaches and staff.
