Simona Halep is facing a four-year ban from tennis after failing a drug test at the US Open.

The ITIA said that Halep had tested positive for a banned substance and had been suspended.

Halep said she would start a fight for the truth and noted that her test showed an extremely low amount.

Halep wrote that he would fight until the end to prove that he never took banned substances.

Halep could be banned for up to four years for a positive test for a substance. If an athlete admits an offense and accepts their sanction, they can earn a reduction in their ban.

Tennis authorities will handle Halep's case and any ruling can be challenged by the World Anti-doping Agency in an appeal.

A tennis player suspended for a period of time is not allowed to play in or attend events.

The European Union allows the use of a drug called roxadustat to treat the symptoms of anemia. According to the EU's medicines agency, which approved roxadustat last year, it stimulates the body to produce more of the natural hormone erythropoietin.

She had nose surgery and decided to take the rest of the season off. She considered retiring early this year after a number of injuries, but she felt better after working with a coach who worked with Serena Williams.

The spokesman for the U.S. Tennis Association wouldn't say anything.

Halep lost in the first round of the US Open to a Ukranian player. She beat Serena Williams in the Wimbledon final to win her third major title of the year.
