Up to 75% of the company's workforce could be laid off if Musk gets his hands on the social networking site.

According to documents seen by the Washington Post, Musk told potential investors that he intended to get rid of most of the staff at the micro-blogging site.

According to the Post, if it happens, the billionaire would be in charge of the loss of around 5,500 employees in a move that would reduce the workforce to just over 2,000.

Musk implied job losses would occur when he said in June that the company needed to get healthy.

Speaking to the Post about Musk's reported plan to send the majority of Twitter's workforce packing, a data scientist said it would be "unimaginable"

Losing so many workers could have a negative effect on the quality of the service. The apparent plan to reduce content moderation on a platform that already struggles with such issues will likely be a big concern for many in the community.

It is expected that the offer will go through by the end of the month. There was a lengthy legal battle with the social media company.

Significant layoffs at the social media company could still take place, though on a smaller scale than what Musk reportedly has planned, if the acquisition falls through, according to the Post. The company had planned to reduce its workforce by 25% prior to Musk's involvement.
