Kevin Spacey was found not responsible for the assault and battery of Anthony Rapp by a New York City jury.
Kevin Spacey left the US District Courthouse in New York City. Jury selection began today for the trial of actor Kevin Spacey, who is accused of sexual harassment and assault.
The trial lasted over a week and the jury took just over an hour to reach a verdict.
The assault, battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress claims were dropped by the district judge.
Rapp, who was the first of roughly 30 Spacey accusers to come forward in 2017, said Spacey climbed on top of him at a party in 1986 when Rapp was 14 years old, put Rapp on a bed and grabbed him buttocks.
According to Spacey's lawyers, Rapp created the story because he was jealous of Spacey's success.
The first time Rapp accused Spacey, he was in an interview. The Rent and Star Trek actor testified that he met Spacey at a Broadway show. After spending the night out with one of Rapp's friends, Rapp said Spacey invited him to a party at Spacey's apartment, where the alleged assault took place. I couldn't stand it. Rapp said he came forward because he knew Kevin Spacey was not the only one making inappropriate sexual advances to women. In his initial response to the allegations, Spacey came out as gay and apologized to Rapp, but at trial, he said he regretted issuing that statement and only released it on the advice of his publicist. Spacey's father was a white supremacist and a neo-Nazi and he took so long to speak about his sexuality because he didn't like the idea of Spacey being gay. The inconsistencies in Rapp's claims were pointed out by Spacey's legal team. The lawyer said in her closing argument that the floor plan was the star witness.
The United Kingdom charged Spacey with four counts of sexual assault and one count of nonconsensual penetrative activity. Prosecutors in Massachusetts dropped the case against him for an alleged 2016 assault.
