The New York Jets excused wide receiver Elijah Moore from practice on Thursday due to speculation about his relationship with the team.
The coach said that Moore took a personal day because of a family issue. One source said Moore's absence was related to football, while another said he had expressed unhappiness to members of the organization.
The Jets took the practice field. "Love my teammates!" was the first thing that came to mind. "I need direction" was the second message that was deleted.
Moore has been a nonfactor this season. He had no official targets in the upset of the Green Bay Packers.
Moore said that if he said what he really wanted to say, he wouldn't be targeted. I'll be the one who wins. I'm grateful! It was a huge blessing. I have always wanted all of it. Butter for me, but I'll be strong. I will just stay quiet, I don't understand either.
The matter has been discussed with Moore by the two men. He defended Moore's character, but added that sometimes mistakes happen.
LaFleur said they had had open dialogue. We are going to keep it inside. LaFleur wouldn't say why Moore isn't getting more chances. Even though he has run the most routes, he is sixth on the team in total reception.
"We want them to be competitive and want the ball," LaFleur said. He's a big part of the plan to score points and win football games.
The Jets are off to their best start in two years. They are 10th in scoring and 17th in total yards.
There are a lot of factors that go into that. He didn't want to give details because he was competing.
A.J. Brown is a close friend of Moore. One of the strongest people I know is one of the people pictured with Brown. Tough people do not go away. We smile because we know God is doing his job. I love you and wish you good fortune.
